Microsoft still dominate the OS market in the Enterprise so the
apps we build are .NET standards based and can run on just about any form factor that uses a Microsoft operating system be it desktops net books laptops using XP Vista or 7 and mobile on windows mobile and CE.
Our ability to support this portability is key for two reasons:
- Backward compatibility with different versions of OS, and
- The opportunity to mix and match devices to help users reflect the needs of the task.
We have seen more interest in the last year from businesses desiring to take the OS they know and understand from the desktop into the field. However the vast majority of field based mobility deployments seem still to be using windows mobile. How the ipad hype around larger screen form factors will influence this we will follow with interest.
