Creating Enterprise Mobility apps does not mean having to cut code

Your business is constantly evolving and the software that supports it should too.
Recent research by VDC highlighted that 70% of senior managers viewed enterprise mobility as a strategic initiative in efforts to configure the supply chain - less stock with fewer outages. A tough balance to perform with traditional paper based systems.

Our approach makes it easy for organisations to create powerful yet economical apps specific to their business processes, without engaging a hoard of programmers taking months to cut custom code.
Custom coding is time-consuming, expensive and inefficient and every time you need a minor change to your application, you'll have to re-engage the developer. Our platform allows you to create a solution that models your business processes. Increasing your competitive advantage in a fraction of the time without the expense or delay of custom programming.

Choose from pre-built apps engage us to build one for you or learn to use the platform yourself and create apps in house.

Enterprise Mobility Apps. Today Connectivity and Time to Develop

Our approach to building apps allows us to address two key areas in the the enterprise mobility area.

Unlike the consumer space apps in the enterprise need to contend with having to pass data backwards and forwards to host legacy business systems.
The circumstances of what gets sent to and from the device has a habit of changing as business needs change.
Both our pre-built and project built apps have a configurable integration capability that enables out of the box ODBC connectivity with existing systems.

One of the more traditional ways to create mobile applications for business has been to commission a bespoke application development. These can often be tough to justify in house as skills in .NET based mobility are not common in most IT teams. If sent outside projects can become costly, complex, and time consuming.Usually down to the vendor 'inventing' an app from scratch to address a very specific need. This then leads to an app which is difficulty to change, repeat, maintain & upgrade once it has been created.

We believe that using one our pre-built apps will give you an initial 80% fit in the majority of cases with the added assurance that you can go back in afterwards and change the process workflow if needs be. If you don't see an app for your needs we will create a prototype for you in 72 hours.

Analysts believe that around 40% of IT projects never achieve their original objectives. In times when businesses need to change their customer reactions to interactions we believe our approach has the effect of radically reducing development time investment and project risk.

Next week, more about building enterprise apps.

Day 3 of why an app store for enterprise mobility is such a good idea today operating systems for windows mobile and rugged tablet pc devices

Microsoft still dominate the OS market in the Enterprise so the apps we build are .NET standards based and can run on just about any form factor that uses a Microsoft operating system be it desktops net books laptops using XP Vista or 7 and mobile on windows mobile and CE.

Our ability to support this portability is key for two reasons:

  • Backward compatibility with different versions of OS, and
  • The opportunity to mix and match devices to help users reflect the needs of the task.
We have seen more interest in the last year from businesses desiring to take the OS they know and understand from the desktop into the field. However the vast majority of field based mobility deployments seem still to be using windows mobile. How the ipad hype around larger screen form factors will influence this we will follow with interest.

Tomorrow, Time to develop and legacy system connectivity....

More on why an app store for enterprise mobility is such a good idea - today devices.

Yesterday we mentioned how businesses needed to access pre-built enterprise mobility apps to plug the upcoming productivity gap. First up some thoughts on devices to run your app on...

One of the first lessons in enterprise mobility is that when buying devices especially in large numbers the longevity of the device and its suitability for the environment is important. Rolling out 1000 devices into a mission critical operation only to find out 6 months later that the unit is no longer available can be a nuisance. This pales into insignificance when the project team realise that the devices cannot be repaired either. Don't think this only happens to small businesses, many large deployments have suffered from this and embarrassingly ended up having to refresh devices in a short period of time.

Devices designed to be used in high utility scenarios commonly have life cycles measured in years rather than months. So picking the right one is a smart move when considering the long term costs of deployment training and repair.

Manufacturers and their channel partners in this area have managed to make commodities of these products to the point where they are widely available at ever more attractive prices. The unfortunate consequence being that there are many companies reselling knowledge they don't have so be careful when you select a vendor.
The lesson with rugged mobile business solution is to find someone who can really add value to your deployment in terms of device selection and support. Create a Gold Build which defines your device and app, load an app built from a platform either from scratch or from our app store and stick with it.

Tomorrow, operating systems..

Why an app store for enterprise mobility is such a good idea

The News that some of the largest phone operators have banded together to challenge the dominance of consumer mobile app stores especially Apple is bound to bring more interesting apps to the market.

But what about the Enterprise Mobility scene? Whilst users in business originally pioneered the use of mobile devices running client apps they have not seen the explosion of app availability that consumers have.

Why is this a problem? Businesses have been shedding costs for some time so the challenge as the economy comes out of the slump is to deal with an upturn with smaller organisations than they had two years ago. Using mobile business solutions to only help cut costs further will not make the difference, the emphasis needs to shift to enabling in field workers to multi-task while enabling new business transactions and making a difference in customer service.
We created our MobileWorxs App Store to enable businesses to find suitable app and install them swiftly to derive the maximum benefit.

Tomorrow, those pesky devices..

How to build a windows mobile pda or Intel Atom based tablet app for your business that doesn't suck !

Historically or in some cases hysterically enterprise grade mobile apps have often proven very difficult for organisations to design plan and implement. Traditionally apps been built in one of the following ways;
  • Buy an off the shelf solution
Traditional square peg round hole approach
    Expensive, inflexible
    Technically, can become outdated quickly
  • Get someone to do a bespoke application development
Tough to justify in house as skills in mobility not common
    Costly, complex, and time consuming
Difficult to change repeat maintain upgrade
  • Use your back end or legacy system mobility module
Geared to extend ERP SCM, and CRM functions to small screens
Not designed from the ground up for mobile workers
Not good at accessing multi-application back end environments
Often excludes functionality mobile workers need

Find out the real difference in how we can build an application 'with' you or select one from our app store and use it as is or modify it to meet your needs.
